Dr. Dre is known for not writing his own lyrics, but also not making his own beats. His signature sound is always defined by what producers he works with. Scott Storch (and to a lesser extent, Eminem) were responsible for his sound in the early/mid 00s, DJ Khalil was responsible for his style in the late 00s through today. He’s now working with Scott Storch again. You’re missing the fact that MelMan helped produce 2001. If you buy the CD it says “Produced by Dr.Dre and Melman”. Mel left the label soon after 2001 due to Dre always shelving artists and taking credit for their work. Daz said he produced a lot of Doggystyle and did a bit of work on The Chronic. Dre and Suge were ruthless and would take people’s work all the time.
