Basically “the Earth was flat” refers to a theory from a Modem thread that human perception is taking the wonder out of reality. Every new thing we discover, the more it collapses into a basic state. Eg, the Earth once was flat, much like was described in the Bible, but as a result of being perceived by humans during space missions it changed to a round state.

People have been talking about it for years but one story in particular that stands out is this lady on reddit, purportedly mentally ill, who did an AMA where she talked about how the voices in her head were teaching her a new kind of math. Then a reddit user linked her Vortex Math and she said she started crying because it was exactly what the voices were telling her about. Can’t find the link.
