Many of the fish seen by Beebe in his groundbreaking deep sea study have never been seen since or formally described. here is no doubt he was a trustworthy eyewitness and respected naturalist, so until another specimen appears no one is sure what he saw. However it is likely that humans have been having a worse effect on deep sea life than they realized and that these have actually gone extinct.
