1973 Australian monkey hammer incident
Level 1
A group of what is believed to be Homo erectus was spotted in the Kimberley in 1973. The individuals were killed and their remains taken into the possession of the Australian intelligence services; genetic testing revealed very close relation to the Aboriginals and all knowledge of the incident was memoryholed, despite contemporary reports in some obscure Northern Territory newspapers. One of the Homo erectus tried to attack a government agent with a crude stone hammer, hence the incident’s name.
